Kerala Reports 496 New Covid-19 Cases

Kerala reported 496 new cases of Covid-19, 693 people recovered and zero deaths, in the last 24 hours. The deaths of three people were not increased due to a shortage of documents and 138 people died as per the new federal guidelines. The death toll is 67,772 and there are 4,051 active cases, the government said.

Iraq Presidential Vote Delayed Again Over Lack of Quorum

The Iraqi parliament on Saturday again postponed a session to elect the country's new president due to a lack of quorum. Only 202 Chamber members 329 came to vote, a parliamentary official told AFP on condition of anonymity, and due to a lack of quorum a new meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, the AFP news agency reported.

  Bengal violence: Eight people burned alive as their homes were set on fire by a mob near the town of Rampurhat in Birbhum district on Tuesday. The killings were allegedly in retaliation for the killing of the Trinamool leader yesterday. BJP targeted eight people killed in Bengal's Birbhum, Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee said today "such incidents took place in Gujarat and Rajasthan" and confirmed the action "in the right way". He also said he would visit the area tomorrow. West Bengal records zero Covid deaths for 8 straight days.

The positivity rate went up to 0.69 per cent from 0.61 per cent the previous day. West Bengal on Wednesday recorded zero COVID deaths for the first time in recent years but filed 153 new cases, a state health department report said. The number of new cases has risen by seven since Tuesday, the report said. 32 new cases have been reported in Kolkata and 28 in the North 24 Parganas region, it said. The positivity level rose to 0.69 percent from 0.61 percent the previous day. The number of daily tests was less than 23,912 on Tuesday to 22,226 on Wednesday, he said. With 166 people evacuated on Wednesday, the recovery rate stands at 98.86 percent, it said. The number of active cases on Wednesday was 1,795, down 13 times from the previous day, the report said.
